2010 Olympic Games

It has been so long since I have done a post, I forgot my password!!!

We spent the "Family Day" weekend in Vancouver to take in the 2010 Olympics. We had a great time!! After arriving on Thursday afternoon, we stuck close to home (Carrie & Shane's place) on Friday and then watched the Opening Ceremonies with the Stewart Clan - Kristine, James & Elizabeth were also in town so they tagged along with us as tourists in the Olympic City. Saturday we were off to downtown Vancouver to take in the flame, Robson Square and a bunch of other Olympic Venues. Sunday, Alan & I took Isabelle & Kyla to their first hockey game out at UBC while Auntie Carrie babysat Kendra. Monday was spent in Yaletown & Granville Island checking out more Olympic stuff. Finally, Tuesday morning was a visit with Grandma & Boompa before flying back home to Calgary for a good night's sleep!!

So far, the press seems to have it right on the games - the weather is typical west-coast wet, the lines are very long and security is very tight. However, when the sun shines, the beauty of the city comes alive and at the end of the day . . . . you are at the Olympics! Everywhere we went, people were friendly and all of the volunteers were extremely helpful. There was a police presence felt throughout but it wasn't overwhelming and if anything, it helped to make some otherwise dodgy areas of Vancouver feel very safe. We wish we had more time to spend!!
