Cayman

As many of you know, Alan is just about finished his MBA. As many of you also know, his team chose to do a project in the Cayman Islands (their business venture is to set up a recycling plant for the islands). Last week, my sister, Mandy flew down from Fort McMurray to watch Isabelle & Kyla while Kendra, Alan & I flew to Grand Cayman. In a nutshell, here is what I thought:

The Good

Grand Cayman was absolutely beautiful!

Because it is located on the Caribbean Ocean, it has miles & miles of white sandy beaches and crystal blue/green water.

The sunset on the water is spectacular (as seen in the picture above).

People are extremely friendly and travel is easy because everyone speaks English.

High end jewelry is comparatively cheap.

The food is fabulous & the service is just as good - we didn't have a single bad meal while we were there.

Some of the best snorkeling & diving in the world (makes me want to get my PADI).

The Bad & Ugly

Everything is very expensive.

There are no all-inclusive resorts on the island.

We were there at the end of the rainy season (meaning that it rained every single day and we only saw a "partially sunny" day twice).

There is not much to do. Shopping caters to the cruise ships and there are really only two tourist attractions (Sting Ray City & the Turtle Farm) on the island. Again, because they cater to the cruisers, they are expensive and don't take much time.

They drive on the opposite side of the street. This is not bad or ugly - just weird and it takes a bit of getting used to.

In Sum

We stayed at a hotel with a kitchenette and I would definitely do that again. It allowed us to have all of our breakfasts & about half our lunches in the room which really brought down the cost (we just walked to a local grocery store). I would really love to go back, bring all of the kids (and anyone else who may want to come!) but not during the rainy season. I would also look at renting a vehicle for a couple of days to explore more of the island.
